Winsome Scott - Tasmanian views in acrylic and watercolours
ABOUT THE ARTIST - WINSOME SCOTT
A private secretary by profession and a former performing member of both the Theatre Royal Light Opera Company and the Gilbert & Sullivan Society, it was on New Year's Day 1985 at a 'theatre picnic' near Gordon in Tasmania, that the 'backdrop & set' painter handed out pieces of burnieboard, brushes and paint and invited the cast to have a go at painting the view.
Winsome, who had never held a brush before, suddenly became conscious of other members standing behind her who wouldn't believe that this was her first attempt at painting. Art classes with some of Tasmania's leading artist-teachers confirmed that she had a natural gift and her first exhibition in 1987 proved to be very successful with 40 paintings purchased.
Membership of the Tasmanian Artists Society and The Colour Circle followed with exhibitions in numerous Tasmanian galleries including Tasmania Gallery, Lady Franklin, Strickland, Meadowbank Estate, Hibiscus, Sorell and The Bush Mill at PortArthur, as well as numerous art exhibitions throughout the State and also in Sydney.
Winsome's paintings have proved very popular with tourists and Tasmanians alike with over 1,000 paintings now hanging in all five continents, while commissioned artwork (which she welcomes) has gone overseas to Canada, England, USA, The Netherlands, N Z and Germany as well as interstate. Clients' own photographs can be used for reference for commissioned paintings if desired.
In 2006 Winsome won the People's Choice Award in the prestigious Artery Art Competition at the Royal Agricultural Society's Hobart Show (331 paintings on exhibition) and was voted first place in the Viewer's Choice in the 2008 Rotary Club of Hobart Annual Art Show (330 entries) at Wrest Point Hotel-Casino. In June 2008 Winsome was advised that an entry listing her achievements would be included in the inaugural edition of 'Who's Who in Tasmania’. In 2010 Winsome was the winner of the 'People's Choice Award (Best Artist) Hobby Artists of Tasmania Inc - Autumn Collection (72 artists, 260 paintings).
